DESTINATION -Never mind that you will repeatedly bungle the pronunciation of the capital, Ljubljana lovely. (Try this: lou-blee-Ahn-uh.) In 1991 slovenia free, and the loss of Yugoslavia as a part of the world benefits.

Tucked between Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia, this little gem from the republic have emerged as a popular European tour. With modern roads, stunning scenery, friendly people, interesting culture, and diverse landscape, slovenia is playing soft adventure travel.

State offers a variety of changing landscapes that make for never a dull moment. There are rivaling Yosemite national park, the village offers a century palace, beautiful turquoise cut by river valleys, mountain-like carved Kauai's Na Pali Coast, a beautiful coastal city that screams Italy (on the right side door), and wine give the Karst region of Napa Valley walk because of money. Add to a decent offer from schnitzel and fries anywhere, combined with locally brewed beer Lasko Zlatorog (search for goat label) and the obscure, dirt cheap (although the Euro) dark red wine called Teran, and you already have the makings of a great vacation.

Winter and early spring offer good skiing in the region. We arrived in early May and enjoyed the less beautiful and the weather (although some splashings rain). You can easily visit the following locations in the west a week with a rental car from Ljubljana, as usual, we take our time and lingered for a while in some places.

Lake Bled Slovenia may be the most famous scenic spot (see photo above). Church on a beautiful island in the middle of the lake prominent feature in many guidebooks, but do not let that deter you. Living in a charming chalet-style house in the city of Bled (we loved the family-run Pension Berc), and give yourself a few days. Bled is the perfect place to relax - and explore by bicycle - and offer some wonderful day trips.

A delightful half-hour trip from Bled put you in the Triglav National Park, the tranquil Lake Bohinj (bo-hene). Here you can easily walk around the lake in a few hours, stopping to soak in the scenery or a picnic in one of the tables or benches along the road. The hike is a flat and easy - perfect for all ages.

Head north just a few miles from Bled travel on another day, visit Vintgar Park, Boardwalk with the amazing trails built on the stone. You will actually run on top of the rushing river on Radovna increased spectacularly in the canyon and back.

Bled let back, cross the spectacular Julian Alps through Vrsic Pass, Slovenia's highest mountain roads. (If some hairpin turns out that's not you, this is not the route for you.) Once on the other hand, alpine areas to give way to lush green valleys as you enter the Karst region, famous for dark and red wine Teran endless rolling vineyards. We spent the night in Gostilna sajna isolated in a small town Sepulje, Medieval ruins of the city tour and the next day. Regions really like Tuscany but see far fewer tourists, which make a visit here fun.

Slovenia's head next to the tiny slice of the waterfront through a quick stop at Lipica to see the world-famous Lipizzaner stallions. Taking a shortcut through Italy to Trieste and waves as you make way to the charming coastal town Piran. For a fraction of the price Piran hotel, a number of local residents rent out rooms (search for "Zimmer" signs) in Postoroz house in the village, just south of Piran. Parking the car at home, and bus or walking down to the village: Most of the Lanes, which only a small pedestrian street, which only add beauty. Dine in the fresh sea view and stunning sunsets as you stroll along the Adriatic near the Croatian border.
