Minister of Tourism will prepare a new National Tourism Action Plan which will soon begin development of the industry from 2011 to 2020.

The Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said the department will also appoint a world-class consulting companies as to give advice on problems they faced.

"We accept any suggestions that can make our country more popular in the world of tourism," he told reporters after attending a dialogue with the Langkawi tourism industry players, here Monday.

Meanwhile, he said that the service is in the midst of taking action on the 15 illegal tourist guide and travel agencies here.

"We will not let them continue operating illegally because it could tarnish the country's good image," he said.

Previously in the dialogue, Dr Ng said federal government had never let political differences to hamper the development of tourism especially in the Opposition, led by the country.

"While the government spending money to provide the best infrastructure to attract foreign tourists, the services offered by the industry players are still disappointing," he said.

He also reiterated that the arrival of tourists to Langkawi has declined by 16 percent from 3.4 million in 2007 to only 2.8 million years ago.

"The arrival of tourists at the national level, however, has increased by five percent from 20.9 million in 2007-22 million in 2008," he said.

Minister also said that although Indonesia has been affected by the economic downturn and a global influenza A (H1N1) pandemic, efforts to encourage countries still ongoing.

Tourism Ministry Secretary-General, Datuk Dr Ong Hong Peng, Director of Tourism Malaysia (domestic and Singapore), Musa Yusof and Langkawi Development Authority General Manager, Azman Umar also attended the dialogue.
