Museum to join the environmental protection and responsible tourism

On the right in the Virginia Museum of Natural History is now the "Virginia Green" with a new attraction, to join the tour program-related organizations and programs in Virginia that is committed to protecting the environment while promoting tourism. Virginia to collaboration and cooperation between the Ministry of Environment Virginia, Virginia Tourism Corporation, and the Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association. This program aims to reduce the environmental impact arising from the tourism industry and raise awareness of the environment. Virginia Green has started in September 2006 with outreach to the hotel, and bed and breakfasts, lodging and other facilities by DEQ Pollution Prevention Office. Virginia Green Lodging program became the first established in Virginia Green, but now the program invites the participation of organizations in all sectors of the hospitality industry. Currently, Virginia Green has more than 300 participants including the tourism, convention and conference center, restaurant, travel organizations, and Virginia Green.
Virginia Green organization aims to provide a recycling, water conservation plan, and reduce energy consumption overall.

Virginia Museum of Natural History also participated in Virginia's participation in this program with the expanded coverage area that the museum "VMNH Green Initiative", launched in 2007. The "Green VMNH Initiative" is a comprehensive program that includes recycling, community education, and environment-friendly facilities management. The "Green VMNH Initiative" led by the museum's "Green Team", consisting of VMNH staff from various departments. VMNH Green team that coordinates all museums recycling and environmental education programs.

Programs that are of the VMNH include recycling paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, printer cartridges and ink. Since the museum moved to new facilities in March 2007, the museum has recycled more than five tons of paper. More than 440 yards of recycled paper, with 150 trees saved.
