Top Ten Best Summer Party Beaches

Back To Main Menu

You lookin' to party? You lookin' to drink cold beer with your shirt off and not get grief for it? You've got so many great party beaches to choose from in the US. But we've narrowed the list down to ten of the best using certain criteria.
The number of nearby bars plays a large role in the ranking of a party beach, especially those with "Dirty", "Margaritaville", two guys' names (two guys partied there so hard that they decided to stay and open up their own bar), or a sexual body part or innuendo in the name.

If alcohol is permitted, that's a big plus because that's a hard thing to find these days. And the amount of drunks found near the waves also factors into ranking. Check out the list and let me know if we overlooked anyone.

10. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
This excellent tourist trap has one of the largest waterparks and one of the largest shopping areas in the southeastern United States. There's also the Myrtle Beach Pavillion that boasts 3 roller coasters and 2 water rides. After you've had your fun there it's time to drink.

Unfortunately, alcoholic beverages are not permitted on this beach but you're never far and you can always party at the Margaritaville and a bar called Dirty Don's.

9. Nauset Beach, Cape Cod, Massachusetts
While much of Cape Cod is overflowing with tourists, Nauset does get crowded but you won't find too many families on this beach due to the heavier surf. You can also find more secluded places along the shore where you'll be less likely to get caught with a six pack -- but keep in mind, alcohol is prohibited in general.

Cape Cod also has a lot of towns with a lot of bars and Orleans -- where Nauset is located -- is certainly not the least of them. Land Ho is a local favorite with a real pub-like atmosphere and the Binnacle Tavern. Other nearby towns also have great nightlife, like the Beachcomber in Wellfleet and The Sand Dollar in Dennisport.

8. Wildwood Beach, New Jersey
You can't drink on the beach but you should be able to get a good sip of something if you hang out on the Boardwalk. It's not exactly the same as drinking on the beach but almost.

Another selling point for Wildwood is the class of bars available around the beach. Shakers, The Deck or The Hurricane. A comment on the Hurricane Web site reads, "Yuck! This place is a bikini bar you have girls dancing in bikinis or provocative clothing. I just found it to be very un classy ..." Drink up!

7. Santa Cruz Beach, California
Enjoying thrill rides on the Beach Boardwalk, surfing at Steamer Lane and relaxing in downtown Santa Cruz. There are a lot of things to do in addition to drinking. And smoking weed. Unofficially, it's the pot capital of the nation. That puts it high on the list.

People in this town are pretty nice and there are plenty of places to drink including the Catalyst, which sounds like your drinking enabler and 99 Bottles, which sounds like a lot of work - you can't leave until it's 0 bottles of beer. And they have what they claim is the "original" Margaritaville.

6. Hermosa Beach, California
One of the greatest things about the entire Hermosa Beach area may be that everyting is within walking distance -- no driving necessary. Which means you can get rip-roaring drunk and not have to worry about a designated driver. As with all California beaches, drinking is not permitted on the sand so head to the bars -- you can walk there.

Among the many drinking establishments you'll find in the area, Fat Face Fenner's Fishack offers a view of the pier to satisfy your voyeur tendencies. You can also enjoy the amazing happy hour at Sharkeez and the beach crowd that gravitates to the Poop Deck.

5. The Hamptons Beaches, New York
Every summer, throngs of young people leave the city and head out to the end of Long Island -- particularly to the Hamptons. In packs, they rent houses and spend weekends getting drunk together and passing out. While drinking is not permitted on the Hamptons beaches -- that does not mean it doesn't happen.

But it may be best to stick to the establishments where you can drink. One of the most famous in the area is called the Boardy Barn in Hampton Bays. This bar alone may be the reason the Hamptons can be considered a party beach area. Only open on weekends from 4 - 8pm, young drinkers line up around the block to get in and drink cheap beer. You can also find Southampton Publick House, a local purveyor of fine beverage.

4. Panama City Beach, Florida
Since the Miracle Strip Amusement Park was shut down in 2003 in order to become lame ass condos there's nothing to do but drink -- which makes it the number one party beach of the United States. You can consume alcohol on the white sand portion of the beach or in your motel room, by your motel's pool or in a nearby bar or lounge.

Take your pick: they have the Dawg Pound Pub & Oyster Bar, Show N Tails, Rotten Ralph's, Lazy Dog Grub & Pub, Fudpucker's and a Margaritaville.

3. East Beach, Galveston, Texas
It's not far from Texas' biggest party location on South Padre but it's got a little party of its own going on. You'll always find something going on there from concerts to bikini contests. And -- you can drink on the beach, too.

This place has so much partying going on that they made it easy for students to qualify for food stamps. Be careful of the local shrimp but get your drink on. They have a Mardi Gras party in town every year -- it's smaller than New Orleans but just as drunk. Plus, on your 21st birthday, you can go to the bar called 21 and get giggly wasted.

2. Cocoa Beach, Florida
Not far from Daytona Beach, Cocoa actually permits alcohol consumption on the sand. Beach goers have been known to pack up coolers of beverages because they can sip whatever they like as long as it's not in a glass bottle. But some simply enjoy the bars along the shoreline.

Coconuts on the Beach is one of the popular places located just down the road from Ron Jon's Surf Shop. Sip frozen cocktails while admiring the horizon from the outside deck. Or you can head back a ways to Daytona beach and enjoy all the bar offerings there.

1. South Padre Island, Texas
This is the most popular spring break destination in Texas -- and possibly the country. But it's also quite the party place in the summer time. For those kids who can't make it to Cancun this year, consider yourself lucky that you can drink all the Shiner Bock you want. Alcohol is allowed on the beach and happily consumed by many enjoying the sun.

You can also drink at Tom & Jerry's Beach Club Bar or Dirty Dave's Deck. If you get burned out from partying, go north to check out Port Aransas or Mustang Island and chill out.
