The 32yo man, first recorded H1N1 case with heavy symptoms, is being treated for pneumonia at the intensive care ward of Heraklio hospital. Speaking to NET 105.8, Panagiotis Efstathiou, head of Health Ministry Operations Center said that the young man is in stable condition which is a good sign. He also underlined that the Health Ministry'Αs plan includes mobilization of the country'Αs medical force if necessary. He, however, stressed that there is no need of hospitalization in H1N1 cases with light symptoms.
Tourist Development Minister Kostas Markopoulos called for an end to exaggerations. “The new flu has not damaged tourism yet, though continuing exaggerations would place Greece in the group of countries with high problem and this would have serious impacts on the tourist industry”, said Kostas Markopoulos
“We can not become obsessed with the new flu, we should realize that we may contract it” said Lung Specialist professor P. Behrakis. Also he underlined that we should not allow the flu to influence our lives maintaining that intensive care wards are sufficient to cover cases of heavy symptoms.
Pediatrics professor Nikos Boudouris stressed that importance should be placed on daily hygiene.
Health and Education Ministries are in continuous cooperation to coordinate measures if necessary. In response to postponement of new academic school year , Education Minister Aris Spiliotopoulos said that all possible scenarios are considered to effectively deal with the flu in the event of problems.
