Shanghai People's Square

The People's Square is situated in Huangpu Area. Once known as the gambling house and the racecourse, and honored as the "No.1 racecourse in Far East", the People's Square is now a political, commercial and cultural center of the downtown.


It covers an area of 130, 7000 square meters and surrounded by many constructions, among which the most famous are Shanghai City Hall, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theatre and Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall. The underground world of the People's Square is also ample. It connects the subway No.1, No.2 and No. 8, and lays the largest alliterated electric drill in Asia, the biggest underground garage in Shanghai and many shopping malls.


You may spend a whole day here and have a deep look at Shanghai's cultural history and actuality.


The Shanghai Grand Theatre is located at No. 300, Renmin Avenue. Designed by famous French architect - Jean Marie Charpentier, it looks like a crystal palace. The theatre is divided into 10 storeys, two for underground, two for lofts and six on the ground. The computer-controlled multifunctional stage equipments can meet the requirements of opera, ballet and symphony and satisfy the world-class performing troupes.
