DESTINATION -Iberostar Cozumel: Background
Iberostar is a Spanish company with many resorts worldwide, including several inclusive resorts in Mexico. A major complex in the Mayan Riviera has five resorts at Playa Paraiso, between Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
The island of Cozumel is off shore from Playa del Carmen, and can be reached by airplane or by a short ferry ride.
Cozumel is known for excellent scuba and snorkeling. The Iberostar Cozumel resort is on the southwest coast; location is between two reefs, the Palancar and Santa Rosa Wall. Transfer time is approx. 20 minutes from Cozumel Airport, 2 hours from Cancun by bus plus boat.

- large lake-style pool, children's pool
- Guests can snorkel and see underwater life right at the resort pier
- kids 12 and up can learn scuba (and even get PADI certified)
- Grounds are lush and tropical; kids like to see flamingos, parrots, tortoises, lizards, peacocks, butterflies
- kids club for ages 4 to 12 (-don't expect major kids' programs)
- rent a car and explore Cozumel or snorkel at Chakanuub park
- Guests can play at other Iberostar resorts
- visitors comment about a section of beach that's rough on the feet-- bring aquasocks!
- some visitors comment about smoking in public areas
- as at many resorts, book speciality restaurants as soon as possible
- some visitors recommend local dive operators, for smaller groups and longer dive time
- the resort is some distance from the town of San Miguel; taxi may be over $20 each way.
- Cozumel's beaches were affected by Hurricane Wilma (2005); always check recent visitor comments to find out about beach conditions
